Fever & ER Decisions

Fever is the most common reason parents call me, and the one where the internet is most likely to either terrify you or tell you not to worry. These guides give you the actual rules I use in clinic and at home.

Any fever in a baby under 3 months is urgent.

The one thing to remember: Treat the child, not the number. Behavior, feeding, and breathing matter more than the digit on the thermometer. Exception: babies under 3 months, where any fever is an ER visit.
